If ChatGPT suddenly looks different, you are probably seeing Intelligent UI, one of the biggest interface changes OpenAI has made to ChatGPT so far.
Instead of answering everything with paragraphs of text, ChatGPT can now combine text with charts, graphics, buttons, forms, comparisons and interactive tools directly inside a conversation. OpenAI introduced Intelligent UI alongside GPT-6 on October 7, 2026.
What interests me most about this update is that ChatGPT is no longer limited to simply explaining something to me. Depending on what I ask, it can actually build a small interface that helps me understand or complete the task.
What Is ChatGPT Intelligent UI?
Intelligent UI is the system ChatGPT uses to decide how an answer should be presented, not only what the answer should say.
OpenAI says GPT-6 has been trained to combine text, visuals and interactive elements depending on the question.
That means I might ask one question and receive a normal text response, while another question could produce an interactive diagram, calculator or comparison interface.
There is no separate Intelligent UI button that I need to activate before every prompt.
ChatGPT decides when a richer interface could make the answer more useful.
What Can Intelligent UI Actually Show?
This is where the update becomes much more interesting.
ChatGPT responses can now include things such as:
- Charts
- Graphics
- Interactive diagrams
- Buttons
- Forms
- Side-by-side comparisons
- Calculators
- Bill splitters
- Games
- Other interactive controls
For example, if I ask ChatGPT to compare two products, a traditional chatbot might simply give me a table.
With Intelligent UI, ChatGPT can decide that a more interactive comparison makes sense.
If I ask about a complex concept, it might use a visual diagram instead of forcing me to understand everything from several paragraphs.
And if I need to calculate something, ChatGPT can potentially create a tool that I can interact with directly inside the conversation.
That is a significant shift.
ChatGPT is starting to move from answering questions toward building a temporary interface for the task I am trying to complete.

Why Am I Suddenly Seeing Buttons and Charts in ChatGPT?
If you recently started seeing unusual buttons, visual layouts, diagrams or interactive controls inside ChatGPT, there probably isn’t anything wrong with your account.
It is part of the GPT-6 Intelligent UI rollout.
OpenAI started rolling GPT-6 and Intelligent UI out globally to Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users on October 7, 2026, followed by Free and Go users starting on October 8.
Because this is a rollout, two ChatGPT users may not necessarily see exactly the same interface at exactly the same time.
OpenAI also says supported mobile apps should be updated to the latest available version.
Which ChatGPT Plans Get Intelligent UI?
Intelligent UI is not limited to ChatGPT’s most expensive subscriptions.
OpenAI currently uses:
GPT-6 Sol
for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users.
GPT-6 Luna
for Free and Go users.
Both support Intelligent UI.
There is an important exception.
OpenAI says the Pro reasoning option, which uses GPT-6 Astra, does not currently support Intelligent UI.
So paying for a higher plan does not necessarily mean every available model or reasoning mode will show these interactive responses.

Do I Need a Special Prompt?
No.
One thing I like about the idea behind Intelligent UI is that I don’t have to learn another special command.
I can ask a normal question.
ChatGPT decides whether text, a comparison, a chart or an interactive interface is the better way to answer it.
OpenAI specifically says that when a straightforward text response is best, ChatGPT can still give a normal text answer.
So Intelligent UI does not mean every ChatGPT conversation is suddenly going to become full of graphics and buttons.
At least, that is the intention.
Can I Ask ChatGPT to Create an Interactive Tool?
Yes.
This may end up being one of the most useful parts of the feature.
OpenAI gives examples including calculators, bill splitters and games that can run directly inside the conversation.
Instead of searching for a separate website every time I need a simple calculator or utility, I can potentially describe exactly what I need.
For example:
“Create a calculator that shows how much I need to invest every month to reach €100,000.”
Or:
“Create a bill splitter for four people where I can change each person’s share.”
The important difference is that ChatGPT isn’t only giving me the formula.
It can create something I can actually interact with.
Can I Turn ChatGPT Intelligent UI Off?
Not completely, at least according to OpenAI’s current documentation.
On ChatGPT on the web, I can open Settings and turn off Layout and visuals to reduce the amount of visual and interactive content appearing in responses.
However, OpenAI explicitly warns that some visual elements may still appear.
In other words, this setting reduces Intelligent UI-style presentation, but it is not a guaranteed “classic ChatGPT text-only mode.”
That distinction is important.
If you prefer the older, simpler ChatGPT interface, you can reduce the visual elements, but OpenAI currently does not describe the setting as a complete Intelligent UI kill switch.
Does Intelligent UI Have a Separate Usage Limit?
No separate Intelligent UI quota currently exists.
OpenAI says your existing model, plan and tool allowances still apply.
That means using an interactive answer does not appear to give you a completely separate bucket of Intelligent UI requests.
Your normal ChatGPT limits still matter.
Is Intelligent UI Available Everywhere in ChatGPT?
Not necessarily.
OpenAI says the feature is available with GPT-6 in supported Chat experiences, but support depends on the model and client being used.
The company’s current documentation also notes that older ChatGPT desktop applications for Windows and macOS do not support these capabilities and recommends using ChatGPT on the web if necessary.
This is worth checking before assuming something is wrong with your account.
If Intelligent UI works in the browser but not in an older desktop installation, the app itself may simply not support the new interface yet.
Why I Think Intelligent UI Matters
I don’t think the most important part of Intelligent UI is that ChatGPT can display prettier answers.
Charts and buttons alone aren’t particularly revolutionary.
The bigger change is that ChatGPT can now decide that a question needs an interface rather than just an answer.
That could make ChatGPT much more useful for calculations, learning, comparisons, planning and small one-off tools.
Instead of adapting my problem to whatever software already exists, I can increasingly describe the problem and let the AI create an interface around it.
There is also a downside.
More visual answers do not automatically mean more accurate answers.
A beautifully designed calculator, chart or comparison can still contain incorrect information if the underlying answer is wrong.
I would therefore treat Intelligent UI exactly as I treat a normal ChatGPT answer: useful, but worth checking when the information matters.
Bottom Line
ChatGPT Intelligent UI allows GPT-6 to combine normal answers with visuals, charts, buttons, forms and interactive experiences directly inside a conversation.
It began rolling out on October 7, 2026, and OpenAI is making it available across both free and paid ChatGPT plans, although support varies by model and client.
For me, the interesting part isn’t that ChatGPT looks different.
It is that ChatGPT is slowly becoming something more than a chatbot.
Instead of only telling me how to solve a problem, it can increasingly create the interface I need to solve it.
